There's some decent material here the theatrical rock of "My Only Fan", melodramatic and brilliant piano ballad "Until the Ocean" and grungey "I Wanna Be Your Daddy" come to mindthis is largely unessential. This album is a great record! Every recording on this album are pretty much like "early" Mother Love Bone demos. This record is also pre-Devilhead and pre-Satchel.
This is way before Pearl Jam existed. I highly recommend this album to every Pearl Jam fans, old or new. It's worth the hunt though. This is really an awful bunch of songs, With Yo Heart (Not Yo Hands) - Various - Deep Six (Vinyl I'm still glad With Yo Heart (Not Yo Hands) - Various - Deep Six (Vinyl Gossard's Loosegroove label went to the effort to release it.
What you have here is early Andrew Wood, showing a little bit of the future genius that would be fully realized in Mother Love Bone especially on "Apple". I think what drags this disc down the most is Kevin Wood's guitar "playing". No, the songs aren't quite there either, but the Metal Method school LP) guitar playing Lesson 1 is really terrible.
When it comes to Malfunkshun, the earlier the material the better. Their tracks on the Deep Six compilation album circa were very cool; sounded like T Rex meets Discharge. But this later stuff I saw a track listing somewhere that seemed to indicate that there were over 20 tracks on this disk, but apparently this version only has these These 13 aren't worth it, but there may be an expanded version with the older stuff tacked on. Sun Dec. Quick View. In order to keep moving, we must let go of something holding us back. To welcome the new, we must say goodbye to the old. If we listen to the voice, we can act, even in times of uncertainty, chaos, ambivalence and doubt.
Then things change. We change, for the better. On each of the 15 songs on the record, Sufjan adopts that authoritative voice, a persona as proxy to make a statement. The personas that populate the record are opinionated, sometimes angry, blunt, often catty or bossy. The beats on The Ascension sound a lot like those great eighties beats: honed, skillful, yes, but also big and loud and thick and, well, just straight up fun.
All of this took work, two years to write and record in upstate New York, using Prophet synthesizers and Tempest drum machines almost exclusively. Unlike that record, The Ascension is not autobiographical, but it did come on the heels of a lot of changes for Sufjan -- which in turn informed the broader thematic structure of the record.
But suddenly, the song shifts, the mood with it, and we are in a car here on Earth, bristling with intent and verve. That one moment, and indeed the whole record, blur the lines between corporate accountability and personal responsibility. This album is his Goodbye To All That, a goodbye to the city and everything it represents.
Change cannot occur without actualization. It feels so impossible, butI think we have to do it measure by measure in incremental changes.
A lot of it has to be personal. Change has to come. No condition is permanent. The Ascension asks us, tells us, pulls us, yanks us by the collar to do something. To change. To be better. To keep it moving. Pure X is the last band, has always been the last band. With production from her friend and longtime collaborator Sturgill Simpson, it shows both of them pushing into unexpected directions. The Rolling Stones. Asking Alexandria.
