Link: Copy link. Just found out that Paul Berger, luthier par excellence from St. Augustine, Florida, passed away about 6 weeks ago.

Very little on the net about it. Apparently, a memorial happened around Sept. Only reason I learned of his passing is that on and off I've been searching for one of his guitars. Paul began his career at Martin. Apparently, he was their go to guy for repairs on top end guitars and those of important professional muscians. His health forced him to leave Martin, and he settled in Florida.

Martin gave him the rights to build copies of their guitars without the Martin name. He apparently left with a stash of old growth Brazilian Rosewood and Adiroindeck spruce. It seems like he only built guitars under the Berger name. The praises of those guitars are legendary. Sad to see such a talented builder leave us. RIP Paul. Rest in peace, indeed.
