Molded into a trio Vaughan, Layton, Shannontheir musical potential was encouraged by producer John H. Hammondwho got the band a recording contract with Double Trouble - Eric Clapton - No Turning Back (CD) Records. They gained popularity after their debut album, Texas Floodbecame a critical and commercial success in By the mids, they had become an international act, touring extensively around the world until Augustwhen Vaughan was killed in a helicopter crash after departing East Troy, Wisconsin.
Various posthumous releases featuring Vaughan have been issued since his death, overseen by his brother Jimmie. Since Vaughan's death, Double Trouble has continued in various capacities, releasing a studio album in and acting as a session band for blues and local Austin musicians. The band has sold over They called themselves Triple Threat Revue, which was a nickname for Vaughan in reference to his multi-instrumental talent.
After three months, Moore moved back to Providence to finish college, and was replaced by Chris Layton in September. When Barton and Reno decided to leave the band inthe group morphed into a power trio and Vaughan became the lead vocalist, and their name was changed Double Trouble - Eric Clapton - No Turning Back (CD) "Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble".
Despite boos from the audience, their performance caught the attention of David Bowie and Jackson Brownethe latter who offered the group free use of his recording studio in Los Angeles. I keep it for my pre-production work and have loaned it out to a number of people for special projects.
If you guys are ever in Los Angeles and you want to use it, just let me know in advance and it's yours. Hammond signed the band to Epic Records in March Couldn't Stand the Weatherthe band's second studio album, saw an outpacing of sales to Texas Flood. Recorded in Januarythe album included musicians such as Fabulous Thunderbirds ' members Jimmie Vaughan and Fran Christina, as well as saxophonist Stan Harrisonwho performed on "Stang's Swang".
If you're not used to it, it only takes two or three days and then you start getting on each other's nerves, and that's worse. The band's desire to experiment grew as they recorded Soul to Soulbeginning in March Vaughan recalled using two wah-wah pedals for " Say What! Parts of the album featured work by Joe Sublett, Doyle Bramhall and Reese Wynanswho was hired as the band's keyboardist. The group's cocaine use increased however, especially Vaughan's, as witnessed by Bramhall, who recalled seeing "mounds of cocaine on top of the organ".
He said of Vaughan's cocaine use: "Where I was doing a lot, Stevie was doing five times, ten times more than I was doing. Allmusic 's Stephen Thomas Erlewine commented, "For all of its positive attributes, Soul to Soul winds up being less than the sum of its parts, and it's hard to pinpoint an exact reason why. Perhaps it was because Vaughan was on the verge of a horrible battle with substance abuse at the time of recording or perhaps it just has that unevenness inherent in transitional albums.
In Julythe band recorded three shows in Austin and Dallas for a live album, later released as Live Alive. One month later, Vaughan learned that his father was hospitalized for an illness, and flew to his hometown of Dallas to be with his family; he died three days later from complications associated with asbestos. After attending his funeral, Vaughan immediately flew to Montreal for a performance in Jarry Parkwhich was reportedly the highest paying show for the band at the time.
A fan recalls the Montreal concert: "He played for a solid two hours and never said a word to the crowd until he came back for an encore and said, 'This one's for you, daddy. I will never forget that performance. During a tour of Europe a month later, Vaughan was hospitalized in Ludwigshafen for near-death dehydration from years of alcohol and substance abuse.
Bush in Washington, D. Vaughan and Double Trouble chose Jim Gaines, who worked with the band for the recording of Soul to Soulto produce their next studio album.
Allmusic's Stephen Thomas Erlewine wrote in his review of the album, "The magnificent thing about In Step is how it's fully realized, presenting every facet of Vaughan's musical personality, yet it still soars with a sense of discovery. For the tour, the band added Jeff Beck as a co-headliner. Eric Clapton Format: Vinyl. Just One Night "Please retry".

This is one of my favourite live albums of all time. Great songs. Great band. Great solos. Everything a Clapton fan could want. I taught myself how to jam with a band and play lead guitar with this album. I would put it on loud and pretend to be up there with them Great days indeed.
Fantastic album. At the time of this recording, Eric had canned his Oklahoma posse consisting of the late great bassist Carl Radle, along with drummer Jamie Oldaker, keyboardist Dick Sims, vocalist Marcy Levy, and guitarist Double Trouble - Eric Clapton - No Turning Back (CD) Terry and replaced them with a band that had yet to find its footing - even with such seasoned vets as guitarist Albert Lee, and keyboardist Chris Stainton. If you are a fan of this period of Clapton's career, this is an essential collection.
Best sounding live album I have ever heard! Just a great recording! Also, the CD arrived quickly! Very impressed! Great sounds great live show. Eric Clapton in one of his best live performances. Several of these songs were perfected with his Tulsa musicians, and are somewhat different from his standard fare.
There are wonderful renditions of some blues numbers that are just terrific. However, despite this Tokyo performance getting 5 stars and deservedly so, Clapton's Crossroads 2 live in the 70's contains his best work ever see especially Layla, I shot the Sheriff, and Little Wing. The Little Wing rendition on Crossroads 2 is unparalleled and could be one of his best ever performances of any song.
His guitar and vocal duet are simply superb. Somewhat equal to that might be his Spoonful rendition on Wheels of Fire. However, Just One Night is Clapton at his competent best, but cannot reach the heights he achieved in Crossroads 2 Live in the 70's.
But then it would be impossible to surpass that album! Clapton and Albert Lee together. See all reviews from the United States. Top international reviews. This really has to be one of the best-sounding live albums you could ever wish to hear. With Eric in fine form and favouring Music Man amps at the time, his Fender Strat's tone is very clean and expressive and there's a real sense of excitement generated by the appreciative Japanese crowd.
The rhythm section of Henry Spinetti and Dave Markee needed no time to settle in and Chris Stainton on keyboards would become a mainstay of future lineups.
For the most part it's a fairly laid-back gig and starts off in relaxed style with "Tulsa Time" - so relaxed that a music journalist writing about the UK tour said that he had to check if Eric was wearing carpet slippers he wasn't. But the highlights of the set for many are likely to be the five extended blues - all 7 or 8 mins.
Clapton's performance on "Double Trouble" is truly exceptional. I was lucky enough to catch this album tour at Lancaster University Students' Union of all places and Eric clearly enjoyed himself on this one. EC and members of the Straits would team up later, at various times in the '80's.
Although arguably a 'safe' set in terms of song choices, other notable moments include the unusual live fade to "Lay Down Sally" - which works brilliantly and Clapton's quirky Double Trouble - Eric Clapton - No Turning Back (CD) in his solo on "Cocaine", which is followed by a great workout from Lee although the sing-along chorus wouldn't suit drug-awareness week.
There's some neat wah guitar from EC, particularly on "Blues Power". A frenetic "After Midnight" can seem OTT but injects some real pace and perhaps gave Eric the energy needed for his triumphant take on "Double Trouble" which follows.
This album puts you right in the front row. Turn down the lights and turn up the volume! Thank you for your feedback. Sorry, we failed to record your vote.
